Halloween Parties
by Tammy Weisberger

Halloween wouldn't be complete without a super duper spooky party. Whether the party is a blood-curdling haunted house, a costume-making extravaganza or a crafty carving party -- we've got how-to's and recipes to fit. But don't let everyone else have all the party-planning fun this year -- get into the action yourself!

Kooky Cookie Decorating Party
What holiday can be complete without a wacky and wonderful cookie decorating party?!? Invite over all of the scary ghouls in your neighborhood to help spookify your kitchen. Whip up a batch of basic sugar cookies and cut them into spooky Halloween shapes. Arm the hobgoblins with gummy worms, candy buttons, sprinkles and colorful icing. Challenge them to create cookies that would scare the dead back into their graves on Halloween Night!

Pumpkin Carving Party
You all know the drill! Journey to the pumpkin patch (or your favorite grocery store) and get the pumpkin with the best carving potential. Cut off the pumpkin's top and scoop out its innards. Don't forget to save the seeds! Separate the seeds from the sludge, rinse them and let them dry for about 4 hours. Then hull 'em and roast 'em with dribbles of olive oil and sprinkles of salt in an oven preheated to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 30 minutes or until golden. Stir the seeds every 10 minutes or so during the roasting to ensure even cooking. Make those pumpkins freaky and maybe, just maybe, they'll scare the wandering dead away from your house! While you're carving those pumpkins, why not serve some ghoulish pies to get you in the Halloween mood?

Haunted House Party
Every year in every neighborhood there is at least one haunted house full of wandering ghosts and headless horsemen that makes all the other haunted houses pale in comparison. It's hard to know exactly how these hauntings are created and how they get so good! Here are a few recipes and ideas to make your haunted house the most convincingly spooky of 'em all!

Witch's Brew: Nothing makes a Haunted House Party spookier than the billowing smoke of dry ice in a dark room with ominous lighting! For something just as spooky but delicious, too, whip up a smoky witch's brew. First, visit your local supermarket's fresh fish counter and ask if they carry dry ice; if they do not, they may be able to tell you where you could find some. Then, mix up a punch of your favorite fruit juices in a large bowl and place it inside an even larger bowl, pot or cauldron. Throw on your best witch or warlock costume and add (using tongs or extra-heavy-duty gloves) chunks of dry ice to the bigger container. This allows you to create that delightful creeping mist without putting dry ice directly into the punch, which can be extremely dangerous. When you're ready to create some magic, simply pour some hot water over the dry ice. Continue to add hot water and dry ice as needed. Never ingest dry ice! Be very careful when using dry ice: Always keep it out of reach of children and never touch it with bare skin; use tongs or extra-heavy-duty gloves.

Everyone knows a Halloween party is not a Halloween party without a creepy cake or two.

Crunch and Munch Make Up Party
Invite a gaggle of kiddies over to transform each other's faces, arms and legs into ferocious beasts! Then, to make sure you've got enough treats to keep them tided over until night falls, try some of these awesome munchies!
